Before joining the Upper Valley Adult Day Care (Scotland House) in June of 2021, I was the Executive Director at Woodstock Terrace Assisted Living for the previous 11+ years. I am a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in three states, Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. I ran nursing homes in all three states before coming to Woodstock in 2010.
I have a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Western New England University in Springfield, MA where I grew up. I am also a certified Eden Alternative Associate, a member of the Woodstock Rotary Club and currently serve as the President and Treasurer of the Woodstock Community Television Board.
I live in Taftsville, VT and enjoy exercise and outdoor sports.

I grew up on a small dairy farm in Tunbridge, VT surrounded by family…literally. Was there anyone I wasn’t related to within a 15 mile radius? My childhood was spend with my cousins in the cow fields, picking wild berries, wagon races, Tunbridge World’s Fair, and anticipating the arrival of the Schwan’s truck!
Growing up my dream was to be a doctor, because I wanted to help people. At four years old I watched my grandmother as she cared for my grandfather eager to help when and where I could.
Although, it wasn’t until my grandmother had a stroke that I realized helping people was truly my calling.
I completed a Licensed Nursing Assistant course right out of high school and ended up falling in love with Geriatric Care and Memory Care to where I furthered my education with getting my Associates Degree in Medical Assisting.
I have over 20 years’ experience working as an LNA and Medical Assistant in a variety of settings such as:
Long Term Care, Residential Care, Home Health Care, DHMC where I had the privilege of being part of the ElderCare Team, Planned Parenthood, and the Ottaquechee Health Foundation.
I have been here since the beginning through renovations, grand opening, shut down due to COVID, another re-opening, a name change and still everyday I am reminded of how grateful I am to be in this position to be able to live out my dream of helping those in our community. I look forward to what the future holds.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, attending concerts, going to the ocean, hosting gatherings, traveling, or getting lost in a book.
There is never a dull moment in my household with our two dogs, frog, hamster, three children (19, 17, and 7), my husband and the revolving door of friends that come over.

Hello, my name is Kerene Schwartz, I am the LPN/Care Manager at The Scotland
House.
I grew up in Lyme, NH, the youngest of 4 children, I attended Lyme Elementary School and then Thetford Academy. I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be a nurse “when I grew up”, and I never veered from that life goal.
I went to Thompson School for Practical Nursing right out of high school, graduating in 1985. I worked one year in the private duty setting caring for a quadriplegic man in his home. From there, in September of 1986, I moved on to a career in the long-term care setting, and I instantly fell in love with geriatric nursing, and I remained there for the next 31 years.
While there I focused on gaining knowledge of the different aspects of care for our elderly population and received certificates in several areas, including Dementia Care, Palliative Care, Wound Care, and End of Life Care.
I “retired” in 2017 after reconnecting with my high school sweetheart, Bryon. With our new blended family, we have 5 children and a total of 9 grandchildren, ranging in age from 1 to 14. We have a small farm in Chelsea, VT with an array of different animals. In my spare time I enjoy, crocheting, knitting and working on home renovation and woodworking projects with Bryon.
As much as I love life on the homestead, I found myself missing the nursing and caregiving part of my life and when I saw the job opening at Upper Valley Adult Day Care (Scotland House) I knew this was the perfect place to reconnect with my life’s passion. Not long after restarting my career here I moved my mom, who was living with vascular dementia, in with us, as she was no longer safe at home alone. This new journey provided me with a more personalized understanding of the impact that caring for a loved one can have on many different aspects of one’s life, making my role here feel that much more rewarding.

I have worked for the Scotland House since 2021. I am a Licensed Nursing Assistant
and have been working in Geriatrics since 2002. I have been married to my husband
Jonathan for 33 years and have 3 children – Matthew, Felicia and Elizabeth. I became a
Memere in 2024 to my first grandchild Maverick and am expecting my second
grandchild November 2025. I love to paint animal portaits, colored pencils, baking,
travel and learning new things. Two things I’ve learned from someone in their older
years: crocheting and canasta. I enjoy the two immensely.

My name is Andrew, and I live in New Hampshire with my wife, Becca, and two dogs, Reggie and Coco.
Originally from Massachusetts, we moved to the Upper Valley for more peaceful life away from the suburbs and it hasn’t disappointed. I love anything ports related, whether it’s watching or playing. I’d play softball everyday if I could, but also enjoy hockey and skiing.
I primarily work as a nurse on the IV team at Dartmouth Health but am excited to be joining the team and exploring this new adventure.

Hi, I’m Kayleigh. I’m a Caregiver and Activities Assistant at the Upper Valley Adult Day Care (Scotland House).
I have more than a year of caregiving experience in nursing facilities. While that gave me a strong foundation in providing quality care, I really enjoy being at The Scotland House because it offers a more personal, home-like approach to care.
Caregiving is more than just a job to me, it’s a passion. I’ve always enjoyed helping others and making people seen, heard, and supported. I love getting to know our participants and their caregivers on a personal level and finding ways to brighten their day, whether it’s through a favorite activity, a kind conversation, or simply being there when they need someone.
I strive to create a warm, supportive environment where our participants feel safe, valued, and engaged.

My name is Jamie, and I am so excited to come work at Upper Valley Adult Day Care (Scotland House)!
I am a mother to two teenagers, a rambuncious dog, and 2 snakes. I love to do fun crafts, garden, fish and explore the outdoors. I love the outdoors so much, that I worked at the Woodstock Farmers Market helping run the garden center for several years.
After that I transitioned to a position as a para educator for 5 years. I worked with kids from kindergarten to high school, which was such a neat experiance!
From there I moved into working in an adult mental health and substance abuse residential program. I really enjoyed helping develop the program and providing more oppertunities for residents to explore new adventures, build on their skill sets, and support their individual goals along the way.
I’m excited to continue having new adventures here at Upper Valley Adult Day Care (Scotland House)!
